Welcome to Class 2D.

Welcome back everyone for your final half term in Year 2. Time has flown by! Our topic this half term is Amazing Animals. We were learning about different animals and their habitats. We are going to be visiting Blackpool zoo and learning about how animals are adapted for their habitat. We will research an animal. We will use this research to make a shoe box habitat for a clay animal that we will design and make.Β We are going to develop are sewing skills by using a running stitch to make an animal puppet. This half term is always a busy time of year. We will be having our Key Stage 1 sports day and have a play to learn and perform. More details to follow.

Spring 2 - Incredible India newsletter

Year 2 have been learning about animals and their habitats. We have learned how different animals are adapted for their habitats. We have used our learning to make a shoe box habitat. We started with making an animal out of clay to go in our habitat. We created the habitat using different materials and the different DT techniques we have learned to make them 3D.

Year 2 had a brilliant time at Blackpool zoo as part of our Amazing Animal topic. It was a very hot but enjoyable day.

We have been to Torrisholme Park to look at what is available and to think how this could be improved. We thought about the age groups that the park is aimed at.

Year 2 have been learning archery. We had a fantastic time.

We have been learning to read a scale accurately. We made different dragon potions to help catch the dragons that are on our school field at nighttime.

Year 2 have enjoyed their banquet to celebrate all their learning during their topic. They made the food for the banquet and provided the entertainment.

We have made a castle with a moving drawbridge. We used a winding mechanism to make the drawbridge go up and down.

Year 2 were challenged to create armour for Sir Egbert. It needed to protect him, look like armour and he needed a face that could be seen. We enjoyed making the armour and had an 'eggcellent' time throwing him across the playground to test his armour.

At Clitheroe Castle, we learned to talk to dragons.

Year 2 visited Clitheroe Castle. We learned about motte and bailey castles and dragons. We became experts at talking to dragons by using a sword. We can protect a dragon by working together together using our shields. We went into the keep, along the curtain wall and into the danger zone.

We have had a fantastic day taking part in lots of activities for our India topic. In the morning we worked together to create a Rangoli pattern using lentils and pulses, we took part in Indian dance and wore some traditional clothes and had henna applied to our hands. In the afternoon we learnt about the Hindu festival of Holi, why it is celebrated and how. At Holi, people throw powder paint at each other and light bonfires as part of their celebrations.

We have been experimenting to find out how to make our paper planet fly the highest. We had to observe and measure carefully.

We experimented to find the best material for our planet. We decided the best material was the one that flew the highest.

Year 1 and 2 have been experimenting to find the best drink for a monster tea party.

Boffin Joel visited us to show us lots of fantastic experiments and start our science week off with a whoosh!

In Science Week we tried to make square bubbles for the aliens.

We have been using our problem solving skills to make a vehicle to take Cinderella to the ball. It had to have moving wheels.

Visit to the Sikh Gurdwara

We visited the Guru Nanak Gurdwara ( Sikh temple) in Preston. We had to cover our head ,take off our shoes and wash our hands to show respect before entering the prayer hall. We learned a lot about being a Sikh, including the 5 Ks that Sikhs wear to show they are a confirmed Sikh. We saw the holy scriptures the Guru Granth Sahib. We had a snack in the free kitchen called a langar. A few lucky volunteers got to wear a real turban. Thank you so much for our warm welcome!

IT SNOWED IN MORECAMBE!!! 2D had lots of fun.

We celebrated the end of our topic, Let's Have a ball' with a Ball in the Hall. We dressed up and performed our dance routines and group compositions.

In Maths we have been learning to solve division by grouping. We have worked with our maths partner to solve this using different pieces of equipment.

We have been busy making dream catchers.

We have made dream bottles to investigate what happens when we put oil and water together.

Look at our amazing new books! As a result of our Bake Off we managed to use the Β£131 to restock our reading areas. We now have poetry, fairy tales, non-fiction and lots of other exciting genres.

We love sharing books with our reading buddies in Class 6T.

The BFG visited our class at nightime. He left some of his things; his black cloak, trumpet, snozzcumber, dreams, a net and a letter for the class. We worked in pairs to investigate these items and write to Mrs Penney to inform her of what had happened in our classroom.

The firefighters came to visit our classroom so we could learn about staying safe and what to do if there is ever a fire in our house. We acted out what we would do.

We have made boats and written about times when we have been scared and who we would turn to. We understand that Christians would turn to God and Jesus when they are scared and they would have hope in him.

It is the Year 2 Bake Off challenge today. There have been lots of fantastic creations entered for judging by Mrs Price, Mr Dodd and Mrs Penney. These are photos of the children's cakes waiting to be judged.

We have been learning about Tudor buildings and how they were different to buildings now a days. We worked together to make a wattle and daub panel and we made a model of a Tudor building.

Book share in year 2. The children enjoyed sharing books with their grown-ups. We hope the grown-ups enjoyed it!

Morecambe fire brigade visited us today. We learned about the equipment they use to rescue people and fight fires. We really enjoyed looking at all the equipment on the engine.

In art, we have created pictures of Tudor buildings by using different materials in our collage.

In maths, we have been learning about place value and have represented numbers in different ways.

We have worked together as a team to create a masterpiece.

Year 2 have been building their learning power of teamwork. We worked in a team to collect items in the outdoor environment to create a large face. We had to plan what we needed and work together to make our finished piece.
