Welcome to Class 2D.
Happy New Year to all the children and their families and friends. Our first week back is poetry week. In Year 2 we will be learning about riddles and tongue twisters. We are going to share a variety of poems and learn to recite The Ning Nang Nong by Spike Milligan. We are going to write our own riddles and create art work for these riddles. We are going to create a large Ning Nang Nong world.
Following poetry week we will be starting our new topic, Let's Have a Ball. This includes learning about different cultures versions of Cinderella. We will be making moving pictures and a vehicle to transport Cinderella to the ball. We will be learning about orchestral instruments and composing our own pieces of music for the ball. On Thursday afternoon, we have sport coaches working with Year 2 to learn basketball skills.
Topic letters will be sent home soon.
Visit to the Sikh Gurdwara
We visited the Guru Nanak Gurdwara ( Sikh temple) in Preston. We had to cover our head ,take off our shoes and wash our hands to show respect before entering the prayer hall. We learned a lot about being a Sikh, including the 5 Ks that Sikhs wear to show they are a confirmed Sikh. We saw the holy scriptures the Guru Granth Sahib. We had a snack in the free kitchen called a langar. A few lucky volunteers got to wear a real turban. Thank you so much for our warm welcome!
