Swimming Gala 2017
Last night we had a great time at the Morecambe School's Swimming Gala! Mr Harding and Mrs Price were proud to take along a team of children who tried their very best, showed great sportsmanship and supported each other brilliantly!
First up was the backstroke heats, with Natalie Gee taking 4th place and Joe Thompson, taking 1st place. Next up was the breaststroke, with Lucy Bunce taking 2nd place and Jake Lloyd taking 1st place. In the front crawl heats, Izzy Smith took 4th place and Ashton Pinington took 1st place. In the relays, the girls' freestyle team (Lucy Bunce, Freya Maun, April Peacock and Marnie Chambers) took 4th place, the boys' freestyle team (Jacob Dugdale, Zach Earnshaw, Joe Thompson and Blake Adams) took 1st place and the mixed medley team (Natalie Gee, Jake Lloyd, Ashton Pinington and Izzy Smith) also took 1st place! A great start!
Going through to the finals, there were some tremendously close races and brilliant performances by all the swimmers. Medals were won by Jake, who took overall 1st place in the breaststroke and Ashton, who took 2nd in the front crawl. The boys' freestyle team and the mixed medley team both took medals home in 3rd place.
A super team performance meant that Torrisholme took 3rd place overall and had a great evening! Well done everyone!
On Wednesday 17th March, Torrisholme went to the Inter-Schools' Swimming Gala at Salt Ayre Sports Centre. They were a credit to the school, as usual. They atmosphere was electric as parents and supporters piled into the pool area. Torrisholme children took their positions, ready to cheer on their team mates. The support they give each other never ceases to amaze me.
Each event was split into two heats, with the top three finishers from each heat earning a place in the final. Maddie Newby, the girls captain, swam the front crawl individual and came 2nd, along with Hayden Mills, the boys captain, who swam the boys individual front crawl and came 1st. Super!
Amelie Earnshaw and Ashton Pinington swam the backstroke individual, with Ashton coming in 2nd place! Well done! Lucy Bunce and Joe Thompson sped across the pool for the breaststroke individuals, just missing out on medals.
Next up were the relay events. The girls front crawl relay consisted of Amelie Earnshaw, Lucy Bunce, Izzy Woodhouse and Maddie Newby. They worked together as a team and flew into the second spot. Excellent, girls! The boys front crawl relay consisted of Joe Thompson, Ashton Pinington, Alex Hirst and Hayden Mills. Showing superb team work, they zoomed into 1st place!
Jake Lloyd, Lottie Mills, Alex Hirst and Izzy Woodhouse were just pipped to the post, after an amazing medley race.
Holly Stephens, Year 6, flew down the pool in the reserve race, showing lovely technique.
After an outstanding evening of teamwork and sportsmanship, the results were in. Torrisholme came in 3rd overall, just missing out on 2nd place. Excellent effort!
A huge well done to everyone who took part.
