Y2 have been learning One Call Away as part of our superheroes topic. Enjoy!
We work in ELF pairs and help each other to be learning heroes! These are some of our superhero ELFs for this term!
Year 2 are really enjoying their current topic, 'Incredible Me'. In this topic, we are learning about what it means to be a hero. In RE, the children have investigated 'everyday heroes' such as firefighters and police officers. In Design and Technology, we have designed and made superhero masks and moving pictures in which superhero characters fly or swim across a scene. The children have come up with their own superhero characters based on their individual skills and talents. Over the next two weeks, they will be drawing their own comic strips starring their characters and writing imaginative stories about them.

Our topic for the April to May term has been Plants. The children have loved learning about the different parts of plants and what plants need to live and grow healthily. We have drawn pictures of the plants that grow in our neighbourhood and we have even planted our own pot plants. Let's see whose plant grows the tallest at home!
Our topic for the first Spring term is on Roald Dahl. We have read the story of 'George's Marvellous Medicine', and the children loved creating their own recipes for disgusting medicines for evil Grandma! They wrote fantastic imaginative tales based on the Roald Dahl story!
We have just started reading 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. This week, we designed and then made models of amazing machines for Willy Wonka's factory. The children all had brilliant ideas for marvellous inventions that Mr Wonka could make!
Check out our awesome junk model machines for Willy Wonka's chocolate factory!

We have been learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. The children applied their understanding to make their own 3D shapes out of spaghetti and marshmallows!
The Fire Brigade came in to talk to Year 2 about fire safety. The children learned what to do if their clothes set on fire and how to react if there is a fire in their house. The children worked together to act out a fire scenario. They learned how to create a 'fire plan' at home and how to phone the Fire Brigade in emergency situations. Ask your child about what they have learned!
Fire Brigade visit.
Year 2 have been using the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' as a stimulus for creative writing with a castle setting. We have learned to sequence the main events of the story and we worked in teams to recreate the main events in a 'freeze frame'.
Jack and the Beanstalk Freeze Frames
Jack and his mother were very poor.
They had no choice but to sell their beloved cow.
On the way, Jack met a strange man.
Jack's mother was very cross!
The next day, Jack found a beanstalk.
Jack climbed the beanstalk and met a giant lady.
The giant lady gave Jack some porridge but then...
the giant came and Jack had to hide in the oven.
Jack stole the bag of gold from the sleeping giant
Jack climbed down the beanstalk quickly!
Jack went back up the beanstalk for more porridge
He saw a chicken that could lay golden eggs!
Jack stole the chicken and escaped!
Children in Year 2 have absolutely loved learning about Castles this term! The children have found out about why and when castles were built across Great Britain and they have been able to examine the different parts of castles. We have researched the different defensive features that were used in castles and we have even tried making our own catapults out of lollipop sticks! The children especially enjoyed our trip to Clitheroe Castle! They worked in teams to build motte and bailey castles out of sand. They also got to try on armour and helmets, and they learned a range of moves with pretend swords. The children designed their own coats of arms and investigated the different types of symbols that were used on shields in medieval times. They also worked together to make a shield wall, which we learned was used to defend soldiers from arrows. Our trip to Clitheroe Castle was a fun-packed day of excellent learning! Enjoy looking at our photos from the day!
