We have been using different watercolour techniques to paint our River Lune pictures. Here is what we've done so far. We are very proud of our work.

We have completed our bridges. 😀

What a lovely day at Happy Mount Park.

Welcome to Class 5S. We have lots of fun and exciting activities planned this year.

The class 5S team: Miss Stalker, Mrs Hunter and Mrs Dugdale.

Welcome back to the final term of Year 5!! Our topic this half term is 'Splash'. We will be learning about the source and mouth of the River Lune and looking at a range of rivers from around the world. The children will learn about erosion and investigate this using sand. In art, children will sketch the River Lune and paint their drawings using water colour techniques.  Our literacy work will be based around The Wind in the Willows and the children will also be writing their own river poem using personification. In Dt, the children will be designing and constructing their own bridge to meet a specific design criteria.

I am looking forward to this term as the weather hopefully starts to brighten up and we can plan lots of activities outdoors.

I would also like to introduce Miss Breslin and Miss Longworth who are students from the University of Cumbria and will be working with us for the next 8 weeks.

Who knows what Miss Stalker was hoping to find?

Summer term newsletter.

We have been using our knowledge of rivers to create a display. This is a working progress but will look great when it is finished.

We had a great time this afternoon (Friday 29th April) separating materials.

Year 5 have signed up for a rocket experiment conducted by the RHS. 2kg of rocket seeds flew to space with Tim Peake and spent some time on the International Space Station. We have planted 100 of these alongside 100 normal seeds as part of an experiment to discover the effects of space travel on plants. Unfortunately, the seeds had to be sown today but children in class will have the opportunity to measure and record the results of the experiment. Watch this space for updates over the course of the 35 day experiment.

The 'Scientists' planting seeds for the rocket experiment!

In science, we carried out an investigation to see which substances were soluble or insoluble.

Take a look at our finished Aztec masks and calendars. We loved making them.

We had a lovely time at our Aztec feast; many thanks to all the parents for their contributions and well done to all the children who were fantastic.

We have made a start on our Aztec masks... We can't wait to wear them!
