Thursday 9th July 2020 (9.7.20)

Good morning 1S! Tomorrow our class page will be archived so after 16 weeks of home learning (I know! I can't believe it either!) and 80 home learning challenges the time has come for me to sign off. You will still be able to view our wonderful gallery and challenge pencils in their new home in the archived section right at the bottom of the class pages and remember, you can still contact me on our year 1 email right up until the end of the school year so please do continue to say hi!smiley

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say how much I've loved being your teacher this year and how grateful I am that so many of you allowed me to share in your home learning journeys. I've loved receiving your updates and will take away so many special memories from this time. I'll never forget my lockdown class of 2020 and although I'll always be disappointed that we didn't get to come together as '1S' for one last time, I will look forward to sharing in all of your successes as you continue your journeys through school.

Last challenge ever!!!: This is me!

Today I’d like you to either create a mini factfile that tells Mrs Patel all about you or draw and colour or paint a self-portrait and add some interesting facts about yourself. You could list your likes and dislikes, your hopes for year 2 or you could tell Mrs Patel all about your home and family life. I know she'll be waiting to see them in the gallery.

Wednesday 8th July 2020 (8.7.20)

Good morning 1S! I hope you've all enjoyed looking back over your year 1 memories as today we are going to start looking forwards and thinking about year 2. It is very important that we spend time thinking about the past and the future at this time of year. It helps us to calm our busy minds and look at upcoming changes in a positive way, whilst also preparing us for the new adventures that are to come.

PS. I'll send your zoom IDs out tomorrow.yes

Challenge: Your year 2 classroom.

What would your dream year 2 classroom look like? What features do you think are important?

How would you organise the chairs and tables?

How would you decorate the walls?

Would there be any special features – maybe a vending machine for daily snacks, a hot tub for when you need a break from learning or even a class pet!!!

Draw and label your designs and let’s see what Mrs Patel thinks!

Tuesday 7th July 2020 (7.7.20)

Good morning 1S! I hope you're all enjoying a good week. How are your plants and veggies coming on? Mine are being attacked by slugs!! They are especially enjoying munching their way through my sprouts and sunflowers - the leaves are covered in holes!

I enjoyed your 'ten things I've learnt in year 1' lists - they were very interesting. This was my favourite, from Emily - 'Stay calm when you make a mistake!' Brilliant, Emily - great advice for us all.

Challenge: Three favourite things!

Today, I’d like you to look back over our year again but this time I’d like you to pick out your three favourite memories from your time in year 1.

You might remember a trip, a visitor, an activity you loved taking part in or something from our daily routine that you always looked forward to.

You could draw and label your memories or write them down.

Monday 6th July 2020 (6.7.20)

Good morning 1S! It's our last week together so let's go out in style. Myself and Mrs Dickinson have put together some fun transition challenges to help you reflect on your time in year 1 and start you thinking about year 2. I will be emailing out your 'End of the Year Quiz' zoom invitations, which will take place on Friday so watch out for those and don't forget to reply!

Challenge: Ten things I've learnt in year 1!

Think back over the year and list ten things you’ve learnt whilst being in year 1. These could be linked to maths, literacy, phonics or our topics - they could even be linked to how you learn. This is an excellent retrieval opportunity as it will really get your brain thinking!
