The Great Outdoors - Minibeasts and Plants The Great Outdoors is a whole school topic embracing how amazing the outdoors really is. We are focusing lots of our work around minibeasts and plants.
Check out our minibeast play dough models!
We have been writing descriptive sentences about our minibeast models too.
We have all made a minibeast creation in our creative area. We have chosen the design, materials and techniques ourselves. They're all different!
We have learnt a song about minibeast! Have a listen by clicking the video below;
We have had lots of fun on our school trip to Leighton Moss. We went on a nature sensory walk, bird watching, pond dipping and minibeast hunting.
We have made Grass Heads! We loved watching them grow and some of us have even given them haircuts at home!
After collecting nature items on our scavenger hunt we have created some great nature pictures!
Our Reading Festival Day was so much fun! We took part in lots of exciting activities linked to stories, authors and the outdoors. We had a picnic with the whole school for lunch.
Team Work Challenges!
We have been learning how to collaborate and be a great team member. The children decided that they would need to talk clearly, listen, help each other, take turns, encourage and compromise. With all this in mind they took part in team work challenges including crossing the river and a blindfolded obstacle course. The children were so proud of themselves after working together to solve the problems.
The children have been busy taking on roles as characters and telling stories on our outdoor stage. Take a look at some of the stories below:
Around the World We have been learning about different countries around the world.
Have a look at our African sunset pictures below;
Our Local Area
During our topic linked to 'places' we have been focusing on features of our own local area. To help enthuse us we went for a walk around Torrisholme and discussed the things we could see including the roads, roundabout, speed bumps, vehicles, houses, bus stops, shops, the park, nurseries, churches, plants and lots more! Here are some photos of our trip and the things we spotted.
We had lots of fun at our first school disco! We danced and danced and even watched some magic!
This was our favourite dance!
Red Nose Day! We all made our faces funny for money! We learnt that our money will help children and families from the UK and Africa.
The Three Little Pigs Theme!
We went to build a house in acorn corner. We pretended to be the little pigs and build a house to keep us safe from the big bad wolf.
Acting out the story...
World Book Day At different times during the day the bell rang and we had to "quickly drop everything" and read. We enjoyed looking at stories and sharing them with each other. We even had some parent visitors that came to read stories to us. We love books!

This afternoon we had a fabulous time strutting our stuff and showing off our dinosaur moves at our Dinosaur Rumpus! Watch our films below...
We have been exploring the different sounds of instruments, learning their names and how to play them.
The Egg Delivery!
Mrs Penney had to interrupt our assembly due to a very important delivery from The Natural History Museum. They have sent us a giant dinosaur egg that they have recently discovered. We have to care for the egg for one month and them return it so they can do further tests. How exciting - see the children's reactions on the videos below...
We each designed the dinosaur we thought was in the dinosaur egg - we shared our ideas with the children in year 1 at the end of the day.
Doing the Dinosaur...
As part of our 'Dinosaur Day', the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 were treated to a session with our music and dance dream team, Mrs Hunter and Mrs Marriott! The children learned their very own, especially written and choreographed, dinosaur song and dance! Each dinosaur group had their very own moves! Here is the 'Brontosaurus' group shaking their tails!!!
Healthy Living Week
The boys and girls have been learning about being healthy. We now know and understand that it is important to eat healthy foods, drink water and milk, exercise regularly, sleep well and wash our hands. We have had our very own supermarket selling both healthy and unhealthy foods and a smoothie bar where we made healthy drinks for each other. The children really enjoyed making their own fruit kebabs. We talked about how to use a knife safely and how to chop the fruit. All of the children chopped some fruit and put it carefully onto a kebab stick. We sat together and ate the fruit kebabs - yummy! Click through the photos below to find see the experience.
We have been learning all about
'People Who Help Us'
We have had lots of visitors come and tell us all about their job and how they help us in our local environment. The children have asked some great questions and enjoyed dressing up in real uniforms. The fire engine and paramedic car were very exciting and the sirens made us all jump! Have a look at the pictures underneath to see all of our visitors...
