Our shining stars have amazed us with their superb singing and signing and performances on the stage! You made it twinkly, you made it sparkly! Well done, Reception! We are so proud of you all!
What a busy first week back!
We have been building, threading, and creating! We have enjoyed creating halloween and firework pictures and talking about our bonfire experiences.
We also showed that we could work as a team, helping Mrs McDonald to change our role play area into a vet’s surgery.
During Forest Friday activities we made a bonfire picture with leaves, before going into the forest with Mrs Pearson. We had lots of fun looking for items that were special to us in the forest, before looking for the fairy house!
We have been celebrating the Hindu festival of light, Diwali. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita, danced a Diwali dance and made rangoli patterns and diya pots. We had a Diwali party and reflected on how we can be kinder to others.
In Maths we have been learning about shapes - specifically circles and triangles. We have had lots of opportunities to explore shapes in the classroom and we went for a shape walk outside.
PE - hopping and skipping (fundamental movement skills)
Preparing for Remembrance Day
World Nursery Rhyme Week
This week we have been singing and singing a nursery rhyme a day for World Nursery Rhyme Week. Monday was Jack and Jill; Tuesday was Hickory Dickory Dock; Wednesday was Head, shoulders, knees and toes; Thursday was Row, row, row your boat and Friday was The wheels on the bus.
On Tuesday we talked about Big Ben and looked at a map to see where London and Morecambe were. This sparked a discussion about travel and how we could get to different places, prompting some children to make a train track.
When we were learning about body parts and senses on Wednesday, the children labelled a picture of a full size child. The children worked together and used their knowledge of letters and sounds to label the body.
Mrs Jones came to Jellyfish class on Thursday and she brought her guitar! The children annoyed singing and dancing to the guitar and some children even got chance to have a go.
This children made boats from various modelling materials and tested them in the water to see if they would float or sink. It was exciting watching the boats floating on the water!
The children had a fantastic time using the balance bikes on the big playground. Taking turns, special awareness, scooting and pedalling were all evident skills the children were developing.
Artist inspired work
In Jellyfish class we have been looking at the work by the artist Jean Miro. We looked at his work and then used oil pastels to create a class project and then got busy making our own masterpiece!
Part, part, whole
In Maths we have been learning about the composition of numbers to 5. We have enjoyed using various objects to make our whole number into two parts.
Getting ready for Christmas!
Making Reindeer Dust to sell at the Christmas Fair
Theatre trip
Our visit to the Grand Theatre was amazing! We watched ‘Jack and the beanstalk’ and it was very funny! We sat with some of our Year 6 buddies on the coach and we had a snack in the interval! Some of us were even under a snow cloud!
Stick Man
Stick Man, oh Stick Man, beware of the……
This week we have enjoyed listening to the story of Stick Man. During our Forest Friday activity, we collected some sticks to make into our very own Stick Man. Next time you are in our classroom, have a look to see if you can spot them.
