Governors
Welcome from the Chair of the Governing Body
If you have already chosen to send your child to our wonderful school then thank you for doing so. If you are thinking of choosing our school then in my opinion you could not be making a better choice.
I am proud as Chair of Governors to lead such a fantastic, totally inclusive and oversubscribed school. My fellow Governors and I, led by a great leadership team and staff at the school feel honoured to be involved in this great school.
We like to feel that children who come to this school will leave the school with great memories, be fully rounded and well prepared for the future.
I believe the opportunities which the children receive at this school are second to none. Our dedicated staff, both teaching and non-teaching provide the children with a creative and enriched curriculum, a great safe learning environment with many diverse after school activities.
Thank you again for considering or choosing our school.
Phil Huddart
Chair of Governors
Who are the Governors?
The school governing body consist of 16 volunteers. The current constitution is made up of one governor elected by the local authority, five parent governors, who are elected by the parents of pupils at the school, one staff governor elected by the staff at the school, the school headteacher and eight co-opted governors. The co-opted governors are elected by the Governing Body and will usually be people from the local community who have specific skills, such as management, financial, legal or human resources.
All governors are elected to serve for four years before they have to apply for re-election.

What do we do as Governors?
Governors are responsible for the strategic management and direction of the school. The Governors are not involved in the day to day management of the school, as that is the responsibility of the Headteacher.
The Governors meet as a full Governing Body at least once a term. The majority of Governor work is done by working committees.
Here at Torrisholme we have the following working committees. These committees also meet at least once a term:
1. Resources Committee - Chair Gavin Glennon
This committee deals with all personnel matters relating to the school including formulating and agreeing HR policies and appoints all the staff who work at the school.
This committee also deals with all the finance relating to the school including formulation and managing and monitoring the school budget and for managing health and safety in school ensuring that all the children and staff are safe.
2. Standards, Effectiveness and Curriculum Committee - Chair Wendy Hacking
This committee monitors the school curriculum including analysing the pupil attainment in the school.
In addition to these working committees there are a number of statutory committees which the school is required to have. These include staff discipline, grievance, parental complaints, the committee of appointed governors and pay policy. Thankfully at Torrisholme, these rarely meet with the exception of the Committee of Appointed Governors, which meets annually to set performance targets for the Headteacher, and the Pay Committee which meets annually to formulate the school pay policy and agree staff advancement.
In addition a number of Governors also act as class governors being attached to specific years. These Governors follow that class through the school and attend events which the year groups are involved in and participate in school trips.
In addition, Governors are currently developing links with subject leaders in school.
All governors have undertaken safeguarding and prevent training. Mr. Phil Huddart is our safeguarding governor
A list of class governors and the years they represent can be found at the bottom of the page.
Governors also attending training sessions to further equip them to dealing with the rigors of being a school governor.
