School Council
What is a school council?
The school council works to make improvements around school. The school council is the voice of all the children and they represent their peers, classes and whole school. We look around for things that could be better and discuss what we are going to do to make the change. Everyone gets a chance to speak and when we’ve finished we vote on the best ideas and then start working on changing things.
Who is in the school council?
Each year we run an application process where 1 member from each Key Stage 2 class is elected to be a representative. School councillors will give their peers a chance to share their views, they will listen to them and report the information back to school council meetings. The school council will meet with Mrs Newby and Mrs Pym each Tuesday morning for a short meeting.
On Friday 19th May 2023, the school council representatives from years 4,5 & 6 were invited to the Making of the Mayor Ceremony at Lancaster Town Hall. This traditional ceremony dates back to 1338 when Robert de Bolton was appointed to the role. The children were fortunate enough to have a fabulous view of the proceedings from the balcony. We witnessed the new mayor, Councillor Roger Dennison officially don his robes, taking over from Councillor Joyce Pritchard. What a wonderful experience for the children who commented that "they had to stand up and sit down a lot during the ceremony!" After the event we had refreshments, and then had the privilege of having our photograph taken with the new mayor. The children asked the mayor what the significance of the golden mace was during the ceremony. They were told that it was a symbol of power and only used in special occasions like this. The children had an unforgettable experience.

April 2023 - Pupil Parliament Today school councillors from years 4 & 5 visited The Pupil Parliament at Lancaster and Morecambe College. The day was all about equality and discrimination. We learned about the 9 protected characteristics and the Equality Law of 2010. We listened to the story of Ruby Bridges and learned about segregation. The final discussion was about stereotypes and how to challenge them. We had an enjoyable and informative day and are looking forward to passing on our knowledge to the whole school in an assembly.

March 2023 - The School Council ran an assembly all about how we can recycle and save energy in school. They have asked all classes to have a light and recycling monitor. Everyone knows that the green bins are the recycling ones.
School Council Christmas Fair Stall 2022 - We hosted 'pin the nose on Rudolph' and 'snowball toss'. We had lots of run running the stall and raised lots of money for school funds.

Pupil Parliament Day 2022. Some School Council members attended the local Pupil Parliament meeting with other schools in our local area. We focused on reducing pollution. We made posters and went out into Lancaster to sign and spread the message to the community.
