Sculptures
To begin their topic of sculptures, the children looked at their focus artist, Alexander Caldor. They then created a double page spread to introduce the new topic of ‘Modern Kinetic Art’.
The children then chose a piece they liked from Caldor’s collection and analysed it, exploring features they liked, disliked and any questions they had about the art.
Inspired by Caldor’s mobiles, the children started to create their own using paper and string.
Using their pipe cleaner model as a starting example, the children began building their wire models. They used various different manipulating strategies, like twisting the wire around a glue stick or pencil, depending on how tight they wanted the spiral.
