Mastering Maths
I can represent 5 in lots of different ways.
We have started using mini-whiteboards in maths. We really enjoyed showing our understanding of numbers in this way. Check out our brilliant representations.

Using part whole models to investigate numbers up to 5.

Exploring 4 & 5

Investigating representations of 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

We’re going on a shape hunt!
Exploring the composition of 1, 2 & 3

We enjoyed rolling the 1, 2, 3 dice and jumping our bugs along the number line - who will reach number 10 first?

I enjoyed exploring number bonds. I was able to work systematically.

Exploring Representations of 1, 2 & 3
We were able to link these numerals to their cardinal values. Some of us went on to make our own representations of 1, 2 & 3 using practical mathematical resources.

Repeating Patterns
We worked hard to continue and then make our own ABAB repeating patterns. We were able to make these by repeating colours and even shapes. Some of us were even able to create trickier patterns - great work Starfish!
Can you spot the repeating pattern here?

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
Dolphins and Starfish came together to enjoy this classic tale. They were challenged to tune into and join in with the repeated language patterns which make this story so much fun. The children loved recreating a bear hunt in our school grounds - it certainly was a beautiful day!

Patterns
I can make repeating patterns in different ways.
I can make and follow a musical pattern.
I can make my own pattern with different objects in the classroom.
I can collect objects from nature and make a repeating pattern with them.

Capacity
Which holds more?
Which holds less?

Comparing Mass
We have been comparing the mass of play dough balls using a balance scale. We were able to use the language ‘heavier’ and ‘lighter’ and made predictions using our understanding of big or small amounts of dough.

Exploring Measures
We compared the lengths of different pieces of ribbon. Which is the longest? Which is the shortest? Can you find a ribbon which is longer than mine?

Sorting Ourselves
We enjoyed sorting ourselves according to a given criteria.
Blue eyes, green eyes or brown eyes? Which group has the most?
Girls or boys, blue jumpers or white t.shirts?

Matching and Sorting
This week we have been matching and sorting familiar everyday objects from in and around our classroom environment. We have been pondering why objects are the same and why they are different before sorting according to a specific criteria. This has been particularly useful in helping us sort and tidy our learning spaces - a very important skill!

Our first week!
