Mastering Maths
🚌 Adding 1 more 🚌
We worked on adding 1 more in lots of different ways. We used five frames and counters. We even had the Dolphin bus driving around our outdoor classroom picking 1 more passenger up at each stop.
We looked at many different ways to show 4 and 5!
We asked questions like..
- Does your group of 4 look like my group of 4?
- How many are there altogether?
- I know there are 5 because…
Funky 4 and 5. We had fun sorting different representations of 4 and 5.
It’s me.. 1, 2, 3!
We have had been busy learning all about numbers 1, 2, and 3! We have been finding one more and one less, counting different objects, and even subtilising. It have been full of number fun!
Patterns
We have made repeating patterns is different ways.
We have been making and following musical patterns.
We have been making our own patterns with different objects in the classroom.
We have been collecting objects from nature and making repeating patterns with them.
Capacity
We loved exploring what capacity means.
Which holds more?
Which holds less?
Exploring Measures
We compared the lengths of different pieces of string. Which is the longest? Which is the shortest? We measured objects around our classroom and even ourselves!
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
Dolphins and Starfish came together to enjoy this classic tale. They were challenged to to tune into and join in with the repeated language patterns which make this story so much fun. The children loved recreating a bear hunt in our school grounds - it certainly was a beautiful day!
Matching and Sorting
This week we have been matching objects in and around our classroom environment. We have been questioning whether the objects are the same and why they are different.
We have been working hard to sort the insects in the maths area. We found different ways in which we could sort them. We found we could sort them by type, colour, and if they can fly!
