Remembrance Day - we took part in a remembrance service at the Church of the Ascension where Father Damian and Father Keith informed the children about the importance of remembering those lost in war and allowed the children time to look at artefacts from WW1. We then returned to school to create the wonderfully creative blackout poetry poppy fields.
Who were the main axis and allied powers involved in World War 2? The children have been learning about the countries involved in World War 2 and their leaders.
Evacuation Experience
We started our history work by exploring the language of chronology and retrieving knowledge from the children’s previous history learning throughout primary school. We then began our study of World War 2, starting with the impact of World War 1 on Germany, the Treaty of Versailles and the rise of Adolf Hitler. The children listened intently to Neville Chamberlain’s speech declaring war against Germany and then they thought carefully about what it must have been like hearing that news.
