In maths this week, we have been learning all about sharing into groups. We have been focusing on making sure we only share to total and sharing equally. We know that equal groups means that there is the same amount in each group. We really enjoyed our practical lesson. It helped us to understand how to share equally then we practised drawing our groups and sharing too. We are super sharers in 1KR!
Making equal groups!
Great fun with doubling numbers to 20! We used cubes to make sure our doubles had two equal groups and put our answers into stem sentences.
We have loved learning about arrays today!
Today, we have been learning all about finding equal groups of 2’s and 5’s. We looked at first identifying how many equal groups were needed and how many counters there should be in each equal group. We enjoyed using the counters practically and working with a partner. We also enjoyed finishing off with our favourite game of how many fingers where children stand at the front of the class and reveal either no hands, 1 hand or 2 hands for children to count in 5’s. First to count the correct total wins team points for their house team.
Today, we practised counting in 5’s. We had counter strips of 5 and we had to work with our partner to count in 5’s to match to our multiple of 5.
Today we have been counting in 2's. We sang some songs to help us count in 2's. We looked at the pattern it creates on a 100 square. We then matched the number with the correct amount of paired shoes by counting in 2's.
Today, we enjoyed measuring capacity by investigating how many cups it would take to fill different containers. We talked about what it’s means for a container to be full, empty and half full. The children loved this wet activity and made some very close estimations!
This week in Maths we are looking at measuring. We have been using the balance scales to compare 3 items and order them from the lightest to heaviest and also to measure how many cubes it takes to balance different objects.
