Summer 2

πŸ“– English Experts πŸ“–

This week in English we have been learning all about fantasy settings. Today we started designing our own amazing fantasy worlds such as candy land, rainbow world and cloud castle! We are now amazing at using adjectives so decided to challenge ourselves to improve them by using a thesaurus.

βœ‚οΈπŸ“° Creating Collages πŸ“°βœ‚οΈ

Today we started our new art unit learning all about collage. To kick start our exciting topic we learnt about the collage artists Patrick Bremer and Megan Coyle. We loved looking at their artwork and discussing the techniques, colours and textures they had used. In our sketchbooks we chose 2 pictures from a range of collage artists to write about before having a go at learning some paper techniques. We explored folding, rolling, cutting, crumpling, tearing, layering and overlapping!

πŸ…πŸ¦“πŸ¦ Our Zoo Trip! πŸ¦πŸ¦“πŸ…

To kick start our new topic all about animals we have spent the day at Dalton Zoo! We had a fabulous time in the sunshine looking at all the different animals, learning about their diets and habitats and even got to feed the giraffes!πŸ¦’ We are so proud of our Year 1 superstars who represented the school fantastically!🀩

πŸ”Ž Investigating Texture πŸ”

This week in Art we have been exploring texture to enhance our collages. We used materials such as tinfoil, bubble wrap, cellophane, tissue paper and corrugated card to create different designs. We thought carefully about why we might use particular textures and wrote our ideas in our sketch books. We had amazing examples of lions manes, fish scales and giraffe fur!πŸ¦πŸ πŸ¦’

🧳 A Mysterious Suitcase…🧳

On Monday we came into school to find a mysterious suitcase win our classroom. We decided to open it and discovered it was full of strange objects such as straw, bricks, twigs, a pan, a for sale sign, some money and much more. We worked together to put the clues together and concluded that our new text must be The Three Little Pigs!🐷 We had lots of fun orally retelling the story to each other with lots of actions.

🌿 Henry Rousseau Inspired Collages πŸŒΏ

This week we started our collages inspired by the French artist Henry Rousseau. We thought carefully about what animals we would like to create a picture of before identifying their habitats. We used this to collage the background for our design. Take a look at our super underwater, jungle, desert, woodland and grassland scenes!

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ Guess the Baby! πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

In PSHE this half term we are learning all about how we have changed since we were born. Today we discussed all the things we can now do that we couldn’t do when we were babies. We were very proud of ourselves! We then had lots of fun passing our baby photos around the circle trying to work out who it was. Just as we were about to start recording our amazing ideas we had a special visit from gorgeous baby Ayeda who is 2 months old. We loved discussing all the things she would learn to do before she was old enough to be in Year 1!
