Early Years Foundation Stage
At Torrisholme Community Primary School, we know that a child’s early years provide the foundation for his or her future learning and development. A child’s experiences during this first hugely important stage of their learning can have a significant impact on their future chances so we greatly value the role that the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) plays in laying these secure foundations.
OUR CURRICULUM INTENT
At Torrisholme Community Primary School, it is our intent to deliver an ambitious and inclusive Early Years curriculum across both our nursery and reception classes which enables all of our young learners to flourish.
Each of our learning environments is carefully designed to enrich children’s personal development in order for them to successfully communicate their individual needs, feelings and ideas whilst developing an understanding of our core values: kindness, thankfulness, courage, humility, trust and respect. In doing so our children are able to develop the skills needed to ‘CARE FOR THEMSELVES, EACH OTHER AND THE WORLD’.
Our curriculum is coherently planned so that it builds upon what children know and can do and has been designed to lay the foundations needed for future learning.
Guided by the statutory framework for the early years, our provision is underpinned by four guiding principles which allow us to place our children at the heart of everything we do.
We know that:
Every child is a unique child, who needs to be provided with a broad and balanced curriculum which places personal, social and emotional development and communication and language at its heart.
The development of positive relationships will support our children’s personal, social and emotional development as they learn to take turns and follow the rules and routines needed for them to grow as learners.
Children learn and develop best in enabling environments where a well-planned, progressive curriculum, which promotes inclusivity and an understanding of the wider world, is delivered by supportive adults who know the children well.
A carefully sequenced curriculum which builds on what the children know and can do prepares them for the next stage in their learning and development.
