What an adventure we had on our class trip to Leighton Hall! From the moment we arrived, it was a day packed full of excitement, exploration, and muddy hands. We started the day discovering the wildlife habitats around the grounds. Armed with curiosity, we searched high and low for mini-beasts and mammals. We were thrilled to spot a newt, evidence of deers, plenty of worms, and all sorts of creepy crawlies that call Leighton Hall home. After that, it was time to head into the forest for some amazing outdoor activities. We let our imaginations run wild while:
• Making clay mini beasts
•. Cooking up fun in the mud kitchen
• Building dens just like woodland animals
• And playing a brand new class favourite Scuttle Vanish! (If you have not played it yet, be
prepared to dash and disappear like a woodlouse!)
Everyone got stuck in - hands muddy, faces smiling, and spirits high. It was the perfect mix of learning and laughter, and we all came away with a deeper appreciation for nature (and maybe a few muddy socks too!).
What does a flower need? 🌻
We have been caring for our garden. We have loved how much the flowers have bloomed and we’re amazed at seeing our beans growing right in our own outdoor classroom!
The Great Science Share - Fantastic Flowers! 🌼🔍
As part of our Great Science Share, we turned into young botanists, carefully observing and drawing flowers. Using magnifying glasses and lots of curiosity, we looked closely at petals, stems, colours, and shapes.
We asked big questions like:
Are all flowers the same?
Why do they look different?
What can we spot if we look really closely?
Each child created their own detailed flower drawing, noticing things they had not seen before! It was a beautiful mix of science, art, and wonder, all sparked by a simple flower. 🌼
The Great Science Share - Exploring the Power of Wind! 🪁⚓
As part of the Great Science Share, our class dived into an exciting exploration of wind and how it can help us. We began with hands-on investigations using wind toys, scarves, and confetti to observe how wind moves and how we can harness its power. The children loved recreating the motion of the wind and watching how objects danced and flew with its force!
Their curiosity then led us on a new journey, discovering how sailboats move using wind! Through child-led questions and imaginative thinking, we explored how sails catch the wind and propel boats across water.
It was a wonderful celebration of science, creativity, and curiosity, all inspired by the wind! 💨
Building Our Bee Hive! 🐝🏠
We worked together as a team to create our very own bee hive! Everyone had a role, from designing the shape to decorating the hive with hexagon cells.
It was a great way to practise teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity. Just like real bees, we achieved more by working together!
Our hive is now part of our bee-themed display, along with our bees!
Buzzing with Creativity! 🐝
As part of our design technology learning, we followed the children’s interest and made bee headbands! The children designed and created their own headbands using card, scissors, staples.
There was lots of buzzing around school as our busy bees flew through the day!
It was a fun way to be creative and celebrate our learning about bees.
Our Big Bee Painting! 🐝🎨
We created a Big Bee Painting to show how important bees are to our world. We talked about how bees help plants grow, and why we need to protect them.
We shared ideas on how to save bees, like planting flowers, not hurting them, and building bee hotels. We hope our painting will inspire others to help bees too!
Our VE Day Celebration
To mark VE Day, our class had a wonderful week of celebration and remembrance. We started by decorating the classroom with red, white and blue, and everyone painted their own Union Jack flags to display with pride. Later, we joined the rest of school for a special picnic, enjoying time together just like people did in 1945. To finish the day, we had a lovely tea and biscuits, a perfect end to the day.
Life-Cycle of Broad Beans 🫘
The children had lots of fun planting broad beans and learning all about how they grow! First, we carefully placed the beans in soil and gave them a good drink of water. Then, we talked about what beans need to grow - sunlight, water, and time. As the days go by the children will watch their beans sprout roots, grow tall stems, and grow big green leaves. We learned this is called the life cycle of a bean, and we cannot wait to see the beans grow!
We are going on a frog hunt! 🐸
we explored our school pond with nets and trays to pond dip! We discovered the fascinating creatures that live there. As we searched for frogs and other pond life, we learnt about different animals and plants that make this unique habitat.
