Year 6 investigating existing products, including their packaging and taste!
Using their own recipe, the children then created their own scones using a variety of tools and skills. They then evaluated these, considering taste, appearance, smell and feel.
Year 5 Pleasant Pizzas
Year 4 Super Salads
Year 4 designing, making and evaluating their very own tasty salads, with a mix of sweet and savoury ingredients.
Scrumptious Soup
Year 3 using a food blender to create their very own scrumptious soups!
Flavourful Fruit
Year 2 tasting a variety of fruits, assessing which ingredients compliment each other. Once they had chosen, they then used knives and copping boards to achieve the ideal sized pieces of fruit, which was then skewered. With a Christmas focus, the children also designed Christmas fruit trees!
Special Smoothies
Year 1 designing, making (using a food processor), tasting and then evaluating fruit smoothies, it with a focus on a healthy and balanced diet.
Year 2's Brilliant Bridges
What are bridges? What purpose do they have?
Year 2 loved going out to investigate bridges, thinking carefully about their structure and what makes them successful.
"It was hard to balance with my partner when we made our bridge but as soon as our friends supported us we were much stronger."
Year 2 spent a lot of time looking at different bridges spotting similarities and differences as well as identifying what they feel made the strong successful bridges. They constructed in different ways using lego - continually improving them as they went along.
After many prototypes, they began to construct their bridges in teams thinking carefully about how to strengthen their structures to achieve their end goal - to be a weight-bearing bridge which is able to transport vehicles.
Success!
Year 3 Sewing Superstars
Year 3 have been working hard on their pencil case projects. It was a sea of back stitch and running stitch when I visited the children in class. The focus and attention to detail was fabulous to see. Well done, Year 3! Take a look at their finished products....
Frame Structures Year 5
Year 5 have been investigating structures with a view to make a structure for their machine which they have been looking at in English.
Year 1 Textiles - Puppets
Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed their DT work this half term. They investigated different puppets and how they were used, thought about who they might like to make their puppets for, investigated and explored different ways to join materials, thought about which of these were strongest and weakest and then spent some time learning how to sew a running stitch and overlap stitch. When they went on to design and make their own puppets they thought carefully about how it would look and what stitch they would use to join their material. We love how they turned out! What do you think? After they had completed their puppets, they evaluated them thinking carefully about what worked well and what they might improve on as well as gaining some critical thought from a friend. Then they went onto practise their story telling using their puppets, ready to share with some of our reception children.
