Painting - using tints and shades
Our focus artists this term are Clementine Hunter, Vincent van Gogh and Georgia O'Keefe. We have been looking at their flower paintings and looking at how tints and shades can bring a painting to life.
We started by experimenting with different paint brushes and then moving onto experimenting with the tints and shades of a primary or secondary colour.

Our first piece of work was influences by Mondrian and Klee. We used sticky tape to create geometric shapes and then filled each space with a tint or shade of a colour. The fun part was carefully peeling off the tape when the paint had dried!
Next, we looked closely at the flower paintings of Georgia O' Keefe. We looked closely at how she used tints and shades to create a 3D effect. We had a go at close flower painting and we were pretty pleased with our results!
