Expressive Art & Design
Puss in Boots ðŸŽ
We had a wonderful time visiting Lancaster Grand Theatre to watch the pantomime. The children were fully engaged throughput the performance, joining in on the “Oh no he didn’t” and “He’s behind you!”.
Christmas Dinner Preparation 🎄
The children have been busy helping to prepare our Christmas dinner by chopping, peeling and grating vegetables. The had great care as they used these tools safely and worked together in the kitchen outside.
This activity built on our fine motor skills, knowledge of where food comes from, taking responsibility and turn taking, and even our communication and language skills as stories of helping at home were shared.
🎆 Staying Safe on Bonfire Night! 🎇
This week we have been learning all about how to stay safe on Bonfire Night. The children talked about the exciting things they might see, like fireworks and sparklers, and learned how to enjoy them safely. We discussed important safety rules, such as keeping a safe distance, wearing gloves when holding sparklers, and always having a grown-up nearby. The children shared their own experiences and ideas about how to have fun while keeping safe!
Exploring the Art of Yayoi Kusama 🎨🎃
The children have been learning about the artist Yayoi Kusama, famous for her bright colours and bold polka dot designs. They enjoyed looking at her artwork and talking about the patterns, shapes, and colours she uses to make her pieces stand out. The children then created their own Kusama-inspired art, covering their work in colourful dots and imaginative patterns. It was wonderful to see their creativity and excitement shine through!
Joan Miró 🎨
We have been exploring the work of the artist Joan Miró. The children looked closely at his
bright colours, bold shapes, and playful lines before having a go at creating their own abstract Miró-inspired artwork.
They enjoyed experimenting with shapes and patterns to make imaginative pictures in his style. We were so impressed with their creativity and the unique ideas they brought to their work!
Loose Parts Portraits
The children have been exploring self-portraits by using a collection of loose parts. They thought carefully about their features and used key vocabulary to describe what they were creating, such as where eyes go and how many ears we have. This activity encouraged creativity, careful observation, and plenty of wonderful explanations as the children designed their unique portraits.
This Is Me!
As part of our learning about ourselves, the children created "This is Me" paintings. They used paint to represent themselves in their own unique way. This activity encouraged the children to celebrate what makes them special. We have proudly added their wonderful paintings to our classroom, making it an even brighter and more personal space.
