Fair Trade
To begin the fair trade topic, the children took part in a trading game where each group was given a specific starter pack. These packs had various different resources the groups would benefit from. The aim was to create as many paper 2D shapes as possible, to then be paid for them. The children started to quickly and independently trade with one another, loaning out pairs of scissors, buying and selling sheets of paper, and even selling off members of their group as labour.
The children looked at the Silk Road and its role in trade throughout history.
The children were joined by Arton Medd, a gentlemen who has visited several fair trade farms. The children were able to ask many questions about this, his experiences and how fair trade is beneficial.
