History
The Transatlantic Slave Trade
To begin our new unit in history on the slave trade, and Lancaster’s involvement in this, the children visited the Maritime Museum on the quay. They saw some of the goods that were transported and traded (raw cotton, rum, tobacco, coffee beans, sugar and mahogany) and that grave cost to these (slavery). The children asked lots of thoughtful questions!
We then created models that represented the various emotions enslaved Africans might have felt.

The class then went on a walking tour of parts of Lancaster, exploring the evidence we can still see about its role in the slave trade.
