Decimals
In Maths, we are now focusing on decimals, carefully building our understanding step by step. So far, we’ve explored tenths as fractions, tenths as decimals, tenths on a place value chart, tenths on a number line, practised dividing one-digit and two-digit numbers by 10, and investigated hundredths as both fractions and decimals.
The children have been using practical examples and visual models to deepen their understanding, and it’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow.
Please continue to support your child at home by encouraging regular times tables practice, as strong number fluency really supports their work with decimals and division.

Fractions
This half-term in Maths, we have been developing our understanding of fractions.
We focused closely on improper fractions and mixed numbers, exploring how to convert between them. We also discussed what an integer fraction is. To support our learning, we used part-part-whole models, number lines, and pictorial representations.
Now, we have moved on to decimals, looking specifically at tenths as both fractions and decimals. Using place value grids, number lines, and bar models, we have compared what a tenth looks like in different forms. This has helped us make connections between fractions and decimals in a visual and practical way!
