Improvisation!
What is improvisation? It's when you make up a rhythm or a melody on the spot, usually against a backing track. We have chosen a great song to addour improvisations to - La Bamba!
It has taken us several weeks to learn this song in Spanish!
We have some top tips for improvising....
Start and end on the key note;
Repeat any small sequences;
Try a bit of syncopation;
Really listen to the beat of the music;
Add legato and staccato moments.
We started with just C and created a rhythmic improvisation first.
Then we moved onto five notes - C,D,E,F,G and tried to include a range of notes including quavers, crotchets and minims as well as rests.
