Science
Animals including Humans
Following the exploration of various life cycles, the children annotated a flowering plant with its reproductive parts, both male and female.
The children completed their first experiment on how surface area affects seed dispersal. They did this by progressively cutting more off their models and timing how long they took to fall.
As part of the unit, the children learn all about a focus scientist. For us, this was Eva Crane. After learning much about her, the class then wrote out a timeline of the key events throughout her life.
Continuing with an Eva Crane, the children explored more about what was discovered with bees. They played a board game that involved answering questions about bees and created posters displaying all they had learnt.
To conclude the Science unit this half term, we released the butterflies we have been custodians of after watching them grow through the key life stages.
Space
To begin their new science unit of space, the children first explored our solar system. We looked at the 8 planets, including Earth, and created mini fact files for one of each type of planet.
