Summer 1

This half term in year 6 we are looking at light and how it travels. We started off by talking about how light travels in a straight line. Then we discussed different light sources, both man-made and natural - the children already had excellent knowledge on the topic!

We started off by demonstrating that light travels in a straight line by using spaghetti to represent the light and putting an object in its path to show light can’t go through certain objects therefore it creates shadows.

Does light travel around bends?

For our final experiment this half term, year 6 explored shadows. We used cut outs of animals and torches to prove that location, size and shape is all determined by the angle or distance the light source is coming from.
