Understanding our World
Investigating Autumn Treasures
What do you see? What does it feel like? Does it have a smell? Where does it come from? What is it called?

Maps
We have been studying and drawing maps of our local area. We bought very carefully about the journey we take from home to school and the landmarks we see along the way. We loved exploring a street view of our locality on Google Earth especially when we spotted a familiar building or feature. We have also been using loose parts to build models of houses and buildings from our locality.

Celebrating the Harvest Festival
To celebrate the harvest, we got together with our beloved year 6 buddies and spent a joyful session scavenging for autumn leaves in order to create a wonderful collection of natural wreaths. The following day, we met up with our buddies once again to take our wreaths and a huge collection of donated food items to one of our local churches. Here we were met by Father Damien and together we shared in a celebration of the harvest with songs, poems, fun and laughter. We loved our very first school outing and can’t wait to get out and about again soon.

What fun we had, working together to build this giant ball run out of loose parts! Brilliant communication and collaboration skills on show from these early learners.

Loose parts play outdoors

Self care - I can wash my hands
We added a home office to our role play. The children love re-enacting familiar situations based on their own experiences.

Our Body
Create & label body shapes from loose parts.

Who is who? You decide!
The children loved looking closely at these baby photos before casting their vote. Which baby is Mrs Scholey? Can you guess Miss Giddins? What about Mrs Taylor?
‘I know this is Mrs Taylor because she has black hair!’

Who’s the Baby?
We loved sharing photos of each other as babies and enjoyed discussing how we’ve changed and grown. What a lovely way to learn more about each other as we continue to build relationships in our new class community.

Our Bodies
Where is your chest? Your arms? Your toes? The children have enjoyed identifying parts of their body and have been making body shapes in lots of creative ways!

Our first week!
