History tour of Morecambe
Sandpipers went on a history tour of Morecambe to investigate how it had changed over the years. Having got the train from Bare Lane, we met our guide, Eleanor, outside the library. She took us through the streets of Morecambe and we looked at the murals on the sides of buildings and discussed what clues there were to see what Morecambe was like in the past.
After lunch, we had a tour of Morecambe library led by Andrew. We looked at the types of books were in the library and how they are organised. We also saw the storage rooms and some items from the Harris Museum in Preston. Upstairs we looked at old newspapers and compared very old maps of the area to more modern ones. The children discovered that Morecambe used to be a very popular holiday destination.
