Stories with moral dilemmas and issue
We started this unit by discussing what the word ‘fib’ means. We then shared our ideas of the following words; truth, trouble and consequences. The children shared some excellent knowledge and we had some interesting conversations around the significance of consequences.
We then used the front cover of the book to make predictions and shared our initial thoughts. We thought about what we could see on the front cover, what characters might be in the book, is it fiction or non-fiction, what might the problem be.
We then moved onto discussing the term ‘moral dilemma’. To support our understanding of the term ‘moral dilemma’ we read a short extract from a story and shared ideas around the idea of the main character keeping a duck that he had just given £2 too.
After this we completed a ‘role on the wall’ activity whereby we needed to use evidence from the text to decide what the other characters may see/say as well as thinking about what the boy thinks/feels.
We have also come up with predictions about what we think might have next.
